Planning for Iquitos - basic info and things to bring

There are quite a few resources for would-be travellers to Iquitos.

Firstly, Google is your friend. No doubt Wikitravel will be one of the pages you come across.

There's also the iPeru website and offices you can find in the airport and on Napo street very close to the Plaza de Armas in Iquitos.

The iPeru office has a map of Iquitos. I am reproducing it here as you may want to have a good look at the general locations of the various sites.

The most basic preparation is to get vaccinated for yellow fever, and get pills for malaria. I got the jab but not the pills... well we'll see what happens, won't we? :P

Bring these items:
- long-sleeved clothes to reduce bites while trekking in the jungle
- an insect repellent spray (insects there bite through clothing too, so spray your clothes)
- a hat or cap
- sunglasses or glasses (for the sun and for travelling along the dusty roads)
- sunblock
- toilet paper
- mineral water, which can be bought there
- money in Peruvian Nuevo Soles (soles for short)
- paper and pen to write interesting facts down
- a camera
